My awesome trainer, Massiel Miranda, told me about a tasty taco place the other day. I’ve seen it and driven by it a thousand times but just never stopped in. So the other day after our workout she mentioned she was hungry. I suggested we eat tacos and she said YES! When your trainer says let’s eat tacos… you eat tacos.

Mono Firito Taco is a tucked away little spot on NE 79th street just West of the causeway but this place is worth looking for. The tacos are authentic with the typical carne asadas, pork and al pastor varieties on the menu. But they’re served with some unique flavor pairings. The Banh Mi chicken taco ($6) comes with pico de gallo, radishes, garlic-chilli aioli and an orange-ginger sauce you don’t find everyday on a taco. Same goes for the Tinga Club chicken ($6) taco served with bacon, avocado-cream, cheese, pico de gallo, garlic chili aioli and scallions. The Camaron ($8) is a crunchy shrimp taco topped with pineapple salsa and a just-spicy-enough salsa verde. Each bite is just right.

Now I understand why Massi wanted to go. The food is fresh, the portions are perfectly reasonable and after a hard workout what better way to reward yourself than a tasty little treat. Once you find Mono Firito Taco you’ll be back for seconds too.
