Don’t you love eating out at a place that feels like home? It’s comfy and warm and the food is simple but delicious? Well, that’s what 27 Restaurant & Bar is all about. Great food in a restored historic 1930’s house that makes you feel like you’re at a really cool dinner party in someone’s home.
My crew and I hit 27 recently to celebrate a b-day. The menu reflects Miami and the people who live here. Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern dishes are all represented and all of the dishes are meant to be shared. We started with a fried Cuban toston (plantain) topped with guacamole. I’ve been eating tostones my whole life and it has never occurred to me to top them with guac. Thank you for that 27! We followed it up with Griot and Pickliz ($12) crispy pork shoulder with spicy slaw, little falafel balls ($12), a delicious yogurt-tahini kale salad ($14), shawarma chicken ($19), and kimchi fried rice ($19). Every time a dish came out we were all pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was.
Sharing a meal with people you love is a gift in of itself. But doing it in this beautiful setting on a warm spring night with all these spectacular flavors just took it to the next level. Like any good dinner party we never wanted it to end and now we can’t wait to return.
