Last night, Las Vegas was a little bit country and Los Angeles was a little bit rock and roll. Some fans were two-stepping at the Academy of Country Music Awards, while others were "Shaking It Off" at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
Music’s favorites were at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last night. SoFlo’s Jason Derulo opened the iHeartRadio Music Awards. He was followed by Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor and DNCE — making the show half mega concert and half awards show.
Justin Beiber took home awards for Male Artist of the Year and Best Fan Army, and Chris Brown won for best R&B artist.
And Taylor Swift cleaned up. She won Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Best Tour. That prompted Swift to make a mushy shout-out to boyfriend, Calvin Harris, whose real name is Adam Wiles.
Taylor Swift: "I had the most amazing person to come home to when the spotlight went out and the crowds were gone. And I want to thank my boyfriend, Adam, for that."
All bets were off in Las Vegas, ’cause country music invaded Sin City. They were boot-scooting-booging at the Academy of Country Music Awards at the MGM Grand.
Between performances, they handed out awards, too. Album of the Year went to Chris Stapelton and Thomas Rhett won Single Record of the Year.
Thomas Rhett: "My heart is beating a million miles a minute and I have lipstick from kissing my beautiful wife."
It was girl power for Miranda Lambert, who won Female Vocalist of the Year.
Miranda Lambert: "I love seeing tonight a great bunch of new country girls shining, singing songs they wrote."
And who knew Katy Perry and Dolly Parton had so much in common?
Katy Perry: "We’re both known for some of the biggest… songs in our fields."
Katy presented Dolly with the Tex Ritter Innovation Award and the two brought down the house with a medley of Dolly’s hits.
So, take a bow, ’cause last night was music’s night to shine.
