Fast moving rain bands with isolated storms have been on the move.   These keep originating over the open waters of the Atlantic, pressing westward on the breeze.  Since wind speeds remain steady (even significant at times) activity has been brief, to say the least.  On Sunday, disorganized showers favored the Keys and Broward County, where rain totals notched to an inch or more.  Looking ahead, additional downpours are likely as moisture gets caught up in our wind pattern.  One of the “triggers” for patchy rain will be a broad upper low that’s drifting from the northwestern Bahamas.   The disturbance is expected to meander through the early week while wobbling toward the Straits.   Meanwhile, the daily sea breeze will contribute to a generally unsettled pattern as well.   The bulk of sea breeze storms will favor areas well inland (and west).   As the week continues local wind speeds will relax.  “Seasonal showers” will stay in the forecast with a better chance for nighttime and morning doses of rain.   On a final note, this July has been extra hot in south Florida.  Temperature highs have been consistent and sizzling.  So far, each day this month has reached 90 degrees or higher (even on the cloudy days)!
