PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Shelby Miller got back on the winning track after a short stint on the disabled list.
Miller threw 6 2-3 sharp innings, Jake Lamb hit a two-run homer and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the reeling Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 Monday to complete a four-game sweep.
Miller (2-6) allowed one run and five hits, striking out five in his first start since May 24. He was sidelined by a sprained right index finger.
“I’m just trying to keep up with them,” Miller said of the rest of Arizona’s rotation. “They’ve been doing so good.”
The Phillies went 0-6 on their first winless homestand of six or more games since Sept. 21-27, 1964, when they went 0-7 at Connie Mack Stadium before losing three more games in a historic collapse from first place.
“Terrible homestand,” Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. “On a scale of 1 to 10, I’m a 9 in frustration.”
Jeremy Hellickson (4-6) allowed three runs and four hits before getting an out. He rebounded nicely and lasted seven innings.
Jean Segura led off with a double and scored on Phil Gosselin’s single. Lamb hit a towering shot off the scoreboard in right for his 14th homer and a 3-0 lead.
“I’ve been able to see pitches a lot better,” Lamb said. “It feels good.”
The Phillies got their only run in the second when Tyler Goeddel’s double scored Andres Blanco after he started the inning with a double.
Miller left with two runners on in the seventh. Tyler Clippard retired pinch-hitter Jimmy Paredes on a fly ball to end the inning. Daniel Hudson tossed a perfect eighth. Brad Ziegler pitched out of trouble in the ninth for his 43rd consecutive save and 15th this season.
GET THE BROOMS
The Diamondbacks earned their second four-game sweep this season. Both were on the road. The other was at San Francisco in April.
Ziegler’s saves streak is the seventh-best all-time. Grant Balfour is sixth on the list with 44 straight saves.
CF Socrates Brito made two excellent plays, including a diving catch.
Arizona improved to 33-39 with its seventh win in nine games. The Phillies are 6-24 since starting 24-17.
The Diamondbacks activated Miller and called up Brito from Triple-A Reno. INF/OF Brandon Drury was optioned to Reno and OF David Peralta was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Diamondbacks: Peralta has a lower back injury. He’s expected to have an MRI in Phoenix to determine the extent of the injury.
Phillies: RHP Dalier Hinojosa will start a rehab assignment at Single-A Clearwater. He’s been on the disabled list since April 29 because of a bruised right hand.
Diamondbacks: LHP Patrick Corbin (3-6, 4.76 ERA) takes the mound at Toronto in the first game of a two-game set.
Phillies: RHP Aaron Nola (5-6, 3.51) starts the opener of a three-game interleague series at Minnesota.
