MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has signed up for another season, extending his decade-long career at the club.

The 34-year-old Carrick has secured a contract extension within the first two weeks of Jose Mourinho’s reign as manager.

Carrick says “it’s great to have the opportunity to work under Jose Mourinho, who has achieved so much during his managerial career.”

The former England international has won the Premier League five times, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Club.

Mourinho says he hopes to benefit from Carrick’s intelligence in midfield.

He says “Michael has a wealth of experience from his many years at the club and that knowledge will be invaluable to me. I am really looking forward to working with him.”
