TORONTO (AP) — Fantasy sports fans will soon be able to draft Canadian Football League players.

The online site DraftKings announced Monday it will host CFL contests for the first time when the season starts June 23.

Jeffrey Haas, the site’s chief international officer, says the partnership is for only the 2016 season, but the company hopes to work with the CFL beyond then.

In the United States, some states have declared companies like DraftKings to be illegal gambling operations. Many states have introduced or are considering regulations of the industry.

DraftKings operates in North America and the United Kingdom. It is also considering expansion to other markets, including Australia and India. The company denies that future international expansion and its increased Canadian presence are linked to legal concerns in the U.S.
