KENNEWICK, Wash. (WSVN) — A school bus driver in Washington is warming hearts – and hands – with his act of kindness for one of his students.

The Kennewick School District said that John Lunceford, an Army veteran, saw the child’s hands and ears were red from having to wait outside for the bus in freezing temperatures last Thursday morning.

Lunceford noticed the student was crying as he boarded the bus.

“I put my gloves on him and told him, ‘It’ll be OK, it’ll be OK,” Lunceford said.

After dropping off the children at their school, Lunceford headed to the store to buy ten sets of gloves and hats. He then drove back to the school and tracked down the boy to give him a hat and gloves.

Lunceford says the remaining hats and gloves will be given to any students on his route who need them.

“I’m a grandfather, you know,” Lunceford said. “No one wants a kid to suffer like that.”
