CLINTON, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man shot to death by police in North Carolina held a shotgun for about 20 minutes before pointing it at officers.

Clinton Police Chief Jay Tilley said in a statement that officers and a state trooper were called to a Burger King before midnight Saturday and found a man inside a truck holding a shotgun.

Tilley says the man refused to drop the shotgun as officers talked to him.

The chief says the officers shot the man after he pointed the gun at officers. His name has not been released. No one else was injured.

Tilley says the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating. The officers were placed on administrative leave and their names were not released.

Clinton is a city about 65 miles south of Raleigh.
