LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) — Court records say a Missouri man was playing with a gun when he fatally shot his brother who had been brushing his teeth with his 2-year-old son.

The Jackson County prosecutor’s office said Thursday that 24-year-old Lawrence Barr, of Lee’s Summit, is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.

The probable cause statement says Barr told a Lee’s Summit police detective that he “accidentally” shot his brother, Aaron Elmore, on Wednesday. Barr said he was playing with his gun and didn’t realize a bullet was in the chamber when he pulled the trigger.

Barr said he then left and tossed his gun out of his vehicle’s window while driving.

The statement says Barr did nothing to help his brother. It wasn’t immediately known if Barr had an attorney.
