ADAMS, MA (WHDH) — “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling revealed in a new story published Tuesday the American version of Hogwarts is located in western Massachusetts.

In the story, posted to the fan site Pottermore, Rowling said the school, “Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,” was built on Mount Greylock, which is the highest natural point in the state, in Adams.

Ilvermorny is the second in a series of new writing by Rowling called “Magic in North America.”

The new story adds a layer of background for the upcoming film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

The new addition share the story of how Ilvermorny was founded and more about its four houses: Horned Serpent, Pukwudgie, Thunderbird and Wampus.
