STAFFORD, Va. (WSVN) — Nineteen-year-old Malachi “Dr. Love” Love-Robinson has been arrested on fraud charges, once again, but this time, he took his fraudulent scheme to Virginia.
According to police, Love-Robinson moved to Virginia, where, over the weekend, he was discovered attempting to purchase a luxury vehicle.
Instead of leaving with a luxury Lexus, however, Love-Robinson was arrested by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office after, police said, he was picked up on fraud charges after showing up to the car dealership accompanied by an unknown elderly woman.
Police believe he used this elderly woman as a prop for his scheme.
“He saw a Lexus that he liked,” said Finance Director Josephina Morris. “I proceeded to do an application with him, send it over to a couple banks to try and get an approval for him. He also had a co-signer on the loan that was an older woman.”
Employees said things got suspicious after the teen claimed to be the vice president of a company that generated a $140,000 yearly salary. The teen then listed his mother as a co-signer on the loan and used her social security information.
The 73-year-old woman with him was not his mother, which led employees to believe the teen used her as a prop.
“When he came, he said it was his mother,” said manager Mike Hickman. “When the officers were asking him, he switched the story to godmother.”
During questioning, Love-Robinson admitted he was out of jail on bond for practicing medicine without a license in Florida.
Investigators also checked the older woman’s credit cards and found a $12,000 charge from the day before for two iPads and a cell phone that she had not purchased.
Authorities seized the items from Love-Robinson and took him into custody.
He is being held without bond in Virginia.
