Ready or not it’s time to get your holiday shopping on. As Lynn Martinez shows us in tonight’s Money Monday, local businesses are hoping you remember them when checking off that Christmas list.
WSVN — We’ve all heard about Black Friday shopping and of course Cyber Monday, but between those two days there is small business Saturday, a shopping day dedicated to local businesses.
Gary Feinberg: “I think they’re the life blood of where we live and they need the support, and this is a great time to show them that you support them.”
American Express started small business Saturday and offers incentives for shopping at your local businesses.
Gary Feinberg: “Well, American Express is giving you $10 for the first store that you drop $10.”
Brownes & Co. have been in business in Miami for 22 years. They are a beauty salon but also have some great gifts with incentives designed to save you big.
Gary Feinberg: “We want to make you beautiful for the holidays, so we’d like to extend 10 percent off SkinCeutical facials.”
Lilac and Lillies in Fort Lauderdale relies on holiday sales every year, and say they too will have deals in full bloom for small business Saturday.
Michelle DiMarco: “For the first time ever, 15 percent off all non sale merchandise if a customer uses their American Express card.”
Restaurants are getting in on the deals too. American Social on Las Olas is offering up a free dessert for all those exhausted shoppers.
Ricky Mijares: “This is additional way for us to drive a little bit more traffic, help people out and do a little bit more than we normally would.”
And it is important to shop local. Of 400,000 small businesses that start up each year, nearly 80,000 fail within 12 months. Which is why these local business say they hope you take advantage of what they have to offer the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Michelle DiMarco: “Each and every customer, whether it’s a $25 sale or more we appreciate and we just feel really blessed that we have these customers.”
