MIAMI (WSVN) - A South Florida beer company is bringing back an iconic Cuban beer.

Concrete Beach Brewery in Wynwood is celebrating their re-release of La Tropical. The beer-makers used the founding family’s original recipe and served the lager in their own Social Hall near Northwest 24th Street and Second Avenue.

Concrete Beach owner Alan Newman said he’s excited to share this piece of Cuban history. “The people who are coming here today are coming here to celebrate, not beer but part of their heritage,” he said, “and that’s what’s so exciting, and that’s what brings a smile to my face.”

The Vienna-style lager first debuted in Havana in 1888. By 1958, La Tropical accounted for nearly 60 percent of all beer sold in Cuba before being nationalized in 1960 and eventually stopping production.
