Wendy’s will soon be using self-service ordering kiosks instead of hiring more employees, according to a report.

As the minimum wage continues to rise, Wendy’s President Todd Penegor said they will make the labor-saving technology available across its 6,000 restaurants nationwide by the end of the year.

However, it will be up to each franchise whether to use the technology in their restaurants.

The self-service trend has also been tested by McDonald’s, but Wendy’s will be the first company to embrace the new technology.

According to Investor’s Business Daily, franchises might face more wage inflation than company restaurants, making the self-service ordering kiosks highly appealing.

The announcement comes after Wendy’s suffered weak second-quarter sales on Wednesday.
