FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A man wanted by deputies has been arrested on Thursday, after he briefly evaded police by using the restroom.

According to police, a woman called 911 after seeing a man unconscious inside a van that was parked in front of her house. Deputies discovered the man had an outstanding arrest warrant and took him into custody.

When the man told deputies he needed to use the restroom, they led him to nearby bushes. That’s when he escaped custody and fled by foot. After about 45 minutes, the man was located at Northwest 27th Avenue, near 14th Street.

The woman who called police said she had a feeling he was up to no good. “Why did he park in front of my house?” asked the woman. “Like he pays rent or mortgage here. So, he was like, ‘Oh, you don’t know me. I pass here all the time.’ My husband said to him, ‘Dude, I don’t know you. I keep banging on the window and you wouldn’t get up.'”

Officials said the man was wanted for driving without a license several times.

Dillard High School was placed on lockdown during the 45-minute search.
