Trump set to speak in Miami during height of DNC

DORAL, FLA. (WSVN) - While Democrats take shots at Republican nominee Donald Trump, the billionaire made a stop in Miami, where he met with supporters.

Trump, who is hoping to win Florida, landed at Miami International Airport, Tuesday afternoon. One of the two planes was emblazoned with the words “TRUMP PENCE” and “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”

The presidential front-runner met with supporters at the Trump National Doral Miami golf course for a fundraiser and reception, Tuesday night.

Supporters and detractors lined the street along Northwest 82nd Avenue and 41st Street, where barricades had been put in place.

Gov. Rick Scott was in attendance at the fundraiser. However, the event was closed to the media.

Outside the event, people like 18-year-old Daniela Ferrara wanted their voices to be heard.

Ferrara was a registered Republican supporting Marco Rubio, but now the young woman who came to the U.S. from Cuba at the age of 3 said that Trump’s candidacy is the opposite of the American Dream.

“Well, I think the immigrant story is the same regardless of status when you come to the United States,” Ferrara said. “You’re running from something. You’re fleeing from oppression, from violence, from drug cartels and you should be given an opportunity here. I’m for equal opportunity. Doesn’t necessarily mean you’re gonna have the same results in the end, but everyone should have the same opportunity no matter their creed, their religion, their race, doesn’t matter, sexuality, absolutely not.”

She, among other protesters are part of the group United Families who promised to give the billionaire an invoice for his “wall of shame.”

They said it is about having free speech. “Even in this protest right now, they’re oppressing us,” said one protester. “They’re oppressing us right now. They put up these fences. They’re telling us what we can and cannot do, and that’s a form of oppression, and we don’t agree with that. We’re trying to make freedom in this country.”

On the opposing side, one small group wore shirts that read “Republicans Are Not Racist.” Maurice Symonette said, “Republicans were the ones that freed the black men and they still have the same mindset. Trump wants taxes down. Hillary wants taxes up. Anything over 10 percent of taxes, according to the Bible, is legal slavery, so I just want my money.”

On Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., Trump will speak to the media at the Trump National Doral Miami.
