HIALEAH GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) — Truckers lined up along a busy Hialeah Gardens roadway once again, Wednesday afternoon, to protest what they call unfair business practices.

Police were forced to shut down Okeechobee Road in Hialeah Gardens as truckers and their families protested. They said they were upset over pay, high fees and government regulations.

“The brokers are staying with most of the money,” said Belcys Lopez. “It’s not fair, we’re asking for the government to make regulations for the payment of the miles.”

“We are tired of working for low pay,” said Amarilys Gonzalez, “we’re the one’s who provide your food, your clothes.”

One trucker, Luis Calderon, was subdued with a Taser and arrested in a protest on the road the night before.

“I had to take care of my people and protect what we were doing,” said Calderon through a translator. Calderon went on to say that he didn’t want police to detain another trucker’s wife, so he held on to her.

Calderon was charged with resisting with violence and battery on an officer, Tuesday night, after he had been tased twice during a protest that also shut down Okeechobee Road. He told 7News that while he can’t be sure whether or not he hit the officer, he never would’ve done it intentionally.

Calderon decided to stay home Wednesday night.

Another arrest was made at a trucker rally in Tallahassee. The protest there was organized in hopes of getting law makers involved.

Multiple agencies are standing by at Wednesday’s protest to ensure that traffic moves smoothly. There were no visible confrontations with police Wednesday night.
