Surveillance video catches voyeur in Coral Gables restaurant

CORAL GABLES, FLA. (WSVN) - Coral Gables police have released surveillance video of a man who, they said, used his cell phone to film up a woman’s dress at a restaurant.

The video, from a Pollo Tropical in Coral Gables, shows a man pretending to tie his shoe as he waits in line. He crouches down behind a woman and, police said, uses his cell phone to film up her dress.

“He kneels down and does the old, I’m going to tie my shoe trick, and pushes his cell phone directly underneath the female victim,” said Coral Gables Police information officer Kelly Denham. “She’s wearing a dress.”

The victim, who didn’t want to be named, said she was shocked that the voyeur would be so brazen.

“It’s sleazy, it’s just sleazy,” said the victim. “I was just stunned. I mean, for somebody to do this in front of so many people, so brazenly, I was just in shock. My husband was standing on the other side of me, there were many people around, and I’m just worried that if they would do something so brazen like this, that they could do something worse.”

As 7News showed the victim the video, she said she didn’t even realize the man was behind her.

“You’re a creep. You shouldn’t be doing this. You’re going to get caught, and you’re invading women’s privacy,” she said.

A bystander told her what was happening after the fact.

“We went after him, but he was already down the street,” she said.

“The chances are that, for him to be this brazen, that he’s possibly done it before,” Denham said. “We don’t know. This is the only documented incident that we have in Coral Gables, so we’re just trying to identify, or to see if anybody else has been a victim.”

The victim said she’s grateful CGPD are releasing the video because she’s hoping somebody will help police catch the voyeur.

“You need to call police and let them know that you saw him because he needs to get caught,” said the victim.

If you have any information on this voyeur, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
