MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Residents and even tourists have continued to venture towards South Florida beaches, Thursday, against the advice of officials.
A man with a woman were seen at a Miami Beach lifeguard post, Thursday, taking a photo, even with the heavy rain and Hurricane Matthew’s squalls moving through Florida. Officials have continually said to avoid the beach and being in or on the water due to the risk of injury or death.

Further north, people took selfies and even kite surfed on Fort Lauderdale Beach, which has since been closed by officials, Thursday. Rescue crews arrived to tell those in the water to get onto dry land due to the dangerous conditions and continued to stress that those on the beach head back indoors.

First responders have urged anyone thinking of going outside to stay home because at 35 to 45 mph winds, as officials begin to focus only on urgent calls. With fire trucks being top-heavy, crew chiefs said they must consider the lives of their first responders as well as other personnel.
Businesses along Ocean Drive reopened, Thursday night, giving residents and visitors a chance to celebrate having spared a direct hit from the hurricane.
