FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A 9-month-old puppy has died, three days after she was rescued from a devastating house fire in Fort Lauderdale.

Sweet Pea was badly injured in Monday morning’s blaze. Neighbors were able to pull her out and rush her to the vet.

The dog’s burns were too severe for her young body to handle. Her parents did not survive in the fire.

A GoFundMe page was created where $6,170 was raised to help in Sweet Pea’s treatment.

According to the page, funds left over from the donations will be put into the Pet’s Tree of Hope Fund, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that helps South Florida animals.

“Words can’t describe the sadness our team is feeling this morning,” said Dr. Ira Zaslow, founder of Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists. “While medical technology gives us an ever-increasing ability to do amazing things, tragically, Sweet Pea’s burn injury continued to worsen, covering over 75 percent of her body. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Hall, and Sweet Pea will certainly hold a special place in all of our hearts.”
