FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A 9-month-old puppy is clinging on to life, one day after she was rescued from a devastating house fire in Fort Lauderdale. She’s the only thing her owner has left after the fire.

Jason Hall visited Sweet Pea after she underwent treatment for her burns. He dropped to his knees and teared up at the sight of her precious pet’s condition.

Hall said he’s owned Sweet Pea since she was born. “She is exactly 50 percent of each of her mom and her dad,” he said.

Sweet Pea was badly injured in Monday morning’s blaze. Neighbors were able to pull her out, and she was rushed to the vet.

But her parents did not survive. “She just loves to play with her dad, but she’s very much a girl, like her mom,” Hall said.

Sweet Pea has burns that range from 30 to 40 percent of her body. She continues to fight for her life, but doctors are giving her a fighting chance. “It’s gonna be days to weeks, probably, in the hospital, and months before she’s back to normal,” said Dr. Lynel Tocci, who is treating the injured puppy.

With the support of the community, donations to help her have been streaming in. “I appreciate that very much,” Hall said as his eyes once again welled up. “I’d love to have her home as soon as I can.”
