PLANTATION, FLA. (WSVN) - Publix kicked off the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival Thursday, with a cooking class at a store in Plantation.

Chef Andre Fowles was the featured chef. He was the winner of the Food Network’s show “Chopped.”

Fowles was joined by resident Jamaican Chef Rey Erie to whip up some delicious and colorful Jamaican dishes.

“I’m inspired,” said Fowles. “When I got here, I was really impressed by how everything is laid out and set up, and I got really inspired to make another dish. I pretty much came here to do one dish and I said ‘Hey, I have to do two because it’s such a wonderful set-up and a really good cause.’ It’s wonderful people. It’s a really good event.”

For the Seventh year, Publix will support the festival which celebrates South Florida’s renowned Jamaican food and entertainment.

In past years, the festival has seen as many as 15,000 guests at Markham Park in Sunrise.

The festival will take place this Sunday, Nov. 13.
