DORAL, FLA. (WSVN) - Two companies are teaming up to surprise a South Florida military family with free food for a year.

Publix and Eckrich invited veteran Joshua Basarab and his family to the supermarket in Doral for what they thought was a one-time shopping spree.

They soon learned at checkout that the shopping spree will continue for a whole year. Once the gift was revealed, the family was overwhelmed with joy.

Publix officials said they were happy to help. “To give them this surprise and have them shopping in our store, and then to tell them they don’t have to worry about groceries for a year, it just means the world to us,” said Nicole Krauss with Publix Supermarkets.

The helping hand has taken a weight off of the Basarab family. “It means less worries, it means everything,” said Kathi Basarab. “You don’t have to worry about what tomorrow brings.”

The family of football fans also received tickets to this week’s University of Miami game.
