NORTH MIAMI, FLA. (WSVN) - Several groups took to the streets of North Miami to demand justice in the shooting of an unarmed caretaker by a police officer.

The Life Collective Organization planned the demonstration, held on the corner of West Dixie Highway and 125th Street, Monday afternoon.

Protesters stopped traffic briefly, prayed together and demanded justice for Charles Kinsey. “To bring awareness to it,” said demonstrator Valencia Gunder, “to let the community know that this could be your brother, your cousin, your son, your sister that gets shot while they’re doing their job, and we won’t stand for that.”

Police said Kinsey was shot by North Miami Police Officer Jonathan Aledda while tending to an autistic man, July 18. The law enforcer was placed on administrative leave while the State Attorney’s Office investigates the shooting.

The group said they hope to see Aledda charged in the shooting.
