DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) - Rescue crews rushed a man to the hospital after, police said, someone opened fire inside a CVS Pharmacy in Davie, Wednesday afternoon.

Davie Police have taken one person into custody in connection to the shooting.

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired inside the store at Griffin Road and University Drive, at around 1 p.m.

7Skyforce HD hovered above the scene as detectives gathered at the scene to interview witnesses and piece together what led to the shooting.

Police said the shooting may have been an escalation of an altercation that sparked in the parking lot. “I understand there may have been an argument that precluded this,” said Davie Police Maj. Dale Engle.

Investigators said the pharmacy was full when gunfire broke out. “As soon as shots rang out, most of the people did as anybody would do and sought cover to protect themselves,” said Engle.

Police said the man in custody was walking out of the store as they arrived. He complied with police, and he did not have a weapon on him.

It remains unknown if the individual is a suspect in the shooting.

“We’ve taken this individual we’ve secured back to the police department. He’s being questioned, and we’ll try to put it together,” said Engle.

Paramedics transported the victim in critical condition to Memorial East Hospital, where he went into surgery.

As of 5 p.m., the pharmacy remained cordoned off by police.

Police are currently viewing surveillance video. “There’s awesome video usually in CVS, so we’ll look at that video to determine what we can see from that or what information and evidence we can gather, and we’ll go from there,” said Engle.
