MIAMI (WSVN) - The search is on a for a shooter who opened fire on a driver, sending that car into a Northwest Miami-Dade home.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the drive-by shooting left one driver dead, Monday night, in the Brownsville neighborhood of Miami.

The male victim was driving east on Northwest 46th Street, police said, when the shooter drove up alongside him and fatally shot him from the moving car. The victim’s car then crashed into a home at the corner of Northwest 46th Street and 19th Avenue.

“Our investigators are still speaking to the witnesses that were on the scene and saw the incident,” said Miami-Dade Police spokesperson Robin Pinkard, “and at this time we do not know if the subject is known to the victim.”

Neighbors told 7News that they heard gunshots before the car crashed into a home. No one inside that home was hurt.

The deceased victim was said to be in his early 20s.

“That was my son’s best friend,” said one woman, who did not wish to be identified. “My heart goes out to his family. I don’t know what to think now. I just thank God my son’s not here.”

Just a few blocks away from the shooting scene, a car struck a man in a wheelchair. The man was alert and talking but injured. An ambulance took him to the hospital.

The driver of that car stayed on the scene. Both incidents are now under investigation.
