MIAMI (WSVN) - Local police officers served homeless veterans at Marlins Park, Wednesday.
The Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police, along with the South Florida Crime Commission and volunteers were among those who handed out hot Thanksgiving meals.
“I’m grateful, and I’m happy and overjoyed that somebody appreciated veterans,” said veteran Charles Higgs.
“I’m just helping people out,” said volunteer Nicolas Garibay. “Not a lot of homeless veterans get the opportunity to have Thanksgiving with people. It’s just a treat for them.”
Officials said the event is their way of giving back to the community they protect and serve everyday.
