HOLLY HILL, Fla. (AP) — Police say a two pit bulls that had already been declared “dangerous” likely jumped a fence from a neighbor’s yard and killed a Chihuahua and a border collie owned by a central Florida couple.

Jim Grimes tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal he didn’t hear his dogs barking when he arrived home Wednesday night. He found Buck the Chihuahua dead in the back yard. A growling pit bull met Grimes in a bathroom of his Holly Hill home where the collie named Boots was dead in the bathtub.

According to Fox 35, an incident report from the police department states that the male pit bull attacked a neighbor’s guest back in September, and then in November, both dogs were deemed dangerous by the city.

Grimes called police and officers captured two pit bulls. They were euthanized after the dogs’ owner released them to the custody of the city. Records show she was notified last month that she hadn’t been in compliance with the “dangerous dog” law.
