WEST BROWARD, FLA. (WSVN) - Crews have capped a leak in an oil tanker truck after a major crash along U.S. 27 and Interstate 75, temporarily closing the northbound lanes of U.S. 27.
A Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson confirmed that U.S. 27 has since been open to traffic, around 8 p.m.
According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office tweet, the tanker truck was involved in a crash with another semi-truck and two cars along U.S. 27 and I-75, at around 5:30 a.m.
The tanker truck began leaking fuel onto the highway, which caused U.S. 27 northbound to be shut down and southbound traffic to be heavily delayed.
The BSO Hazardous Materials team responded to the scene and secured the leak.
BSO said one of the drivers was treated and transported to Cleveland Clinic Hospital in good condition.
FHP officials said that crews will return to the scene Saturday morning to continue their evaluation.
Motorists are advised to take precaution while workers are on scene.
