MIAMI (WSVN) - Questions are swirling around an incident caught on video showing a man falling from a Downtown Miami drawbridge as it was opening, two weeks ago.
Christian Rosario, who was visiting South Florida on business, took out his cellphone and began recording after he spotted a man who appeared to be sleeping on the rising bridge, located on Southwest Second Avenue, May 14, at around 6:30 a.m.
“What the [expletive],” a man is heard saying in the video as the man tumbled what appears to be 10 to 15 feet to the hard cement.
“Ooh, he’s out,” the man is heard saying after the man rolls out of sight.
Rosario said the bridge tender had also spotted the man. “I was in shock, I was in shock, and I knew he was hurt,” Rosario told 7News over the phone.
“That’s crazy, and when the [expletive] goes down, that [expletive] is gonna crush his head, bro,” Rosario is heard saying in his video shortly after he captured the man’s fall.
The video goes on to capture audio of Rosario trying to render aid to the man who fell and trying to alert passers-by. Rosario said one person dialed 911, and he noticed the man was still breathing.
7News reached out to local agencies for more information about the incident, but Miami Police did not have a record of it.
Miami Fire Rescue said they did receive a call at the bridge, which connects Downtown Miami to the Brickell area, at around 7 a.m., that came as a person who had been hit in a traffic accident. Officials said that individual was transported to the hospital with head lacerations.
7News then went to the Florida Department of Transportation to inquire if there was an investigation into the incident. 7News showed Rosario’s video to an official, who then referred the reporter to Miami-Dade County.
County officials said, while safety is always their top priority, they had no record of the incident for the date and time given. Shortly after, Rosario sent 7News a screenshot with the clip’s date, May 14, on the lower left-hand corner.
The man’s identity, current condition and the circumstances that led to his fall remain a mystery, at this time.
