DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) - An auto giant with a large South Florida presence is helping to take the stress out of buying a car with a brand-new policy that guarantees all their vehicles are “recall free.”

AutoNation’s announcement comes after a string of high-profile recalls. “Today there are so many recalls that it’s hard for a customer to really know which car has a recall and which car doesn’t,” said Benny Dominguez, president of AutoNation Miami.

Whether it’s the Takata airbag recall that has impacted more than 30 million vehicles, or the Volkswagen diesel emissions recall that has affected as many as 11 million vehicles across the world, it can prove to be overwhelming to car buyers.

“That’s pretty easy for that to get lost in the mail, so you’ve got to do the due diligence of checking it yourself,” said AutoNation customer George Atkinson.

Dominguez said, under the new policy, customers won’t have to worry about whether there is an open recall on any vehicle they are considering to purchase. “The customer is guaranteed that any vehicle they see at any AutoNation store is going to be recall free,” he said.

7News cameras captured several vehicles at the AutoNation in Davie with signs on their windshields that read, “Not for sale, open recall.” That’s because the car won’t be sold until the recall is resolved.

“At any time we will have 15 to 18 percent of our inventory on hold, not available to sell,” said Dominguez.

Customers George and Renee Atkinson said the new policy has taken out the guessing and the homework when it comes to open recalls. “Well, that’s why we are here,” said George. “We really appreciated that they were really upfront with us. Right up from the beginning, they went over the fact that there were no recalls on the car,” said Renee.

And that’s why they signed the paperwork to drive off in their recall free ride.
