NORTH BAY VILLAGE, Fla. (WSVN) — Several suspects were taken into custody, Tuesday, following a multi-agency investigation into a South Florida drug store burglary ring.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, with the help of several other agencies, swarmed a building along the 7000 block of West Drive in North Bay Village, Wednesday morning, in an effort to break up a burglary ring that, they said, spanned across Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

According to BSO, the suspects allegedly broke into more than 40 Walgreens stores since last July and stole thousands of prescription pills and bottles of cough medicine.

The most recent burglary happened Tuesday at a Walgreens, located at 183rd Street and 37th Avenue, in Miami Gardens.

One man, who lives nearby, said he’s been living on his block for three years, and he’s never seen that much police activity. “When I looked, it looked really weird,” said Guiermo Chaviano. “There’s a lot of undercover cops all over the block searching for something, checking inside that building and behind that building.”

Three people, one in North Bay Village and two in Miami Gardens, were arrested Tuesday afternoon. Their identities have not yet been released. Police are still searching for other possible suspects.

The agencies involved included Miami-Dade, Pembroke Pines, Miramar, BSO district in Cooper City, FDLE, PBSO.

On Wednesday, the Broward Sheriff’s Office announced that the three people arrested are in their 20s and have all admitted to committing several of the crimes. However, it is likely that others may be involved.

If you have any information on this crime ring, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $3,000 reward.
