MIAMI (WSVN) - A mother of nine children was killed by a stray bullet after, police said, several people began shooting at each other in Miami, Sunday night.

Officials continue to investigate this case where, they said, a woman who wasn’t involved in the gunfire was fatally shot around midnight.

According to police, the victim was struck in the neck, somwhere along Northwest 68th Terrace and 15th Avenue.

“There’s too much happening, going on around here,” said area resident Charles Thomas. “Just sitting there, minding her own business, and things like this happen, so it’s too much.”

A truck that was on the scene at a stop sign had a bullet hole in the windshield. Witnesses said the victim was sitting in her vehicle when she was hit by gunfire.

City of Miami Police were on the scene and tried to piece together what happened. “I think we ought to try to do something about this,” Thomas said.

On Monday, police identified the victim as 50-year-old Sonia Williams. Her family said she is a mother of nine children.

Investigators said she was an innocent bystander.
