NORTH MIAMI, FLA. (WSVN) - Police are investigating after, they said, a mother ran over and killed her 1-year-old son in North Miami, Monday evening.
According to North Miami Police, the mother of the child was backing out of the driveway, in the area of Northeast 128th Street and 12th Avenue, in her white SUV when she accidentally struck the toddler. The child died at the scene.
Investigators said the incident took place around 6:18 p.m. However, by 10 p.m., officials were still on the scene. “Her son, who is 1 years old, was pronounced dead on the scene,” said North Miami Police Cmdr. Rafael Estrugo. “We are here investigating, and we’re not just here investigating, but we are also providing support for the family who is going through a very rough and sad time at this moment.”
The toddler’s body was removed by the Medical Examiner’s Office shortly before 10 p.m. Police remained at scene as they continued to conduct their investigation.
No charges have been filed.
