PEMBROKE PINES, FLA. (WSVN) - The Miami Heat held auditions that put senior citizens center stage for a chance to be a member of a special team, Tuesday.

Dozens of South Florida seniors showed off their golden moves, hoping to make the cut for the 2016-2017 Golden Oldies team.

The Miami Heat was calling for all vivacious, young-at-heart seniors. There’s just a few requirements. “Willing to bust a move and entertain our Heat fans at home,” said Golden Oldies Manager Shara Kiddy.

They auditioned for a spot at the Southwest Focal Point Senior Center in Pembroke Pines.

Contestants auditioned through several rounds. The first was freestyle. “There’s gonna be music playing, and you just kinda dance to the music,” Kiddy said, “just show us their personalities.”

The freestyle round is when the first cuts are made.

The choreographed round follows. Those who pass that stage make it on the team.

“Who was gonna tell me at my age that I was gonna be doing something like that?” said Golden Oldies Veteran Ganet Gardinet. “So I love it.”

Gardinet has been part of the Golden Oldies for years. “It keeps you young,” she said.

She told 7News that she’s reauditioning because no veteran is safe. “Everybody has to reaudition every year, so everybody’s just bringing their A-game today,” Kiddy said. “We’re just really excited to have everybody here.”

Gardinet said the thrill isn’t just about dancing across the hardwood. “It’s a lot of excitement,” she said. “It’s a lot of excitement. We watch it through the TV. We are like crazy.”

All dancers trying out had to have turned 60 years old by Tuesday to qualify.
