MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - The Miami Gardens Police Department set up a coffee stand, Thursday, and invited the community to have “Coffee with a Cop.”

Officers set up the coffee stand on the corner of Northwest 171st Terrace and 25th Avenue.

Police Chief Antonio G. Brooklen said the event allowed officers to build a relationship with the residents they serve.

“We take the initiative to the community and invite the community out, to not only talk to the police and voice their concerns and build relationships, but also talk to their neighbors,” Brooklen said.

The chief said he is planning similar events to connect with youth in the community.

Rachel Taalibdeen of the North-Dade Youth and Family Coalition believes the events can help people in the community.

“I believe that with support and opportunity, people will change,” she said.

The event takes place every other month in different parts of Miami Gardens.
