MIAMI (WSVN) - Miami Fire Rescue crews rescued a kitten that was trapped in a sewer, early Tuesday morning.

Emergency dispatch received a call around 2 a.m., Tuesday, saying someone was stuck down a drain. But when responders arrived to the scene at 68th Street and Biscayne Boulevard, they discovered that the cries for help were from a kitten.

“We got a call at two in the morning, supposedly an individual stuck down the drain,” Oscar Aguilera said. “But we arrived here, and we could hear the kitten down there.”

The firefighters removed the grate from the sewer, lowered a ladder into the sewer and Aguilera climbed in.

Aguilera carried the kitten out and brought him over to the fire truck, where they cleaned it. Firefighters believe he may have been down in the sewer for at least a day or two.

“It’s what we do everyday,” Aguilera said. “That’s what keeps us coming into work everyday.”

The kitten appeared to be OK but was taken to a veterinarian to be checked out.
