MIAMI (WSVN) - Miami-Dade Schools Police Department announced, Tuesday, that it will be getting new partners for the upcoming school year.

According to a news release, MDSPD will begin the school year on Monday, Aug. 22, with first responders from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue in order to promote “Operation School Zone.”

“Operation School Zone” will put emergency vehicles and members of the MDSPD in school zone areas to bring awareness that the school year is back in session.

The news release stated, “This effort will help us deter speeding, heighten awareness of surroundings and educate the community on being careful around our school zones.”

This partnership marks the first time the MDSPD have joined with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials to reduce accidents in school zones.

“We hope that this initiative will remind drivers that school is in session, and we need to protect our most valuable resource: our children,” said Chief of Police Ian A. Moffett in a news release.
