SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami-Dade Animal Services is hosting their Fourth Annual Mega-Match-A-Thon, Saturday.

The 24-hour event kicked off Friday just before midnight with family-friendly entertainment and hundreds of cats, dogs, kittens and puppies available for adoption.

The event is taking place at Tropical Park at Southwest 40th Street and 79th Avenue, in Southwest Miami-Dade.

New pet owner Jill Manning gave her opinion as to why events like the Match-A-Thon are so important. “I think because there is just a really big need. People need help, and the animals need the help, and I think the animals complete the family,” she said.

Adoption fees begin at $30 for dogs over 4 months and all cats. Puppies under 4 months have a $75 adoption fee.

All adopted pets were spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped for their new families.

The 24-hour event, which also features food trucks, music and children’s activities, will take place until 11:59 p.m., Saturday.
