MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami Beach Police have two suspects in custody who may be responsible for the theft of 17 personal watercrafts on Miami Beach.

According to Miami Beach Police, 17 personal watercrafts over a period of several weeks were stolen from their docks at several Miami Beach homes.

Wednesday morning, police made a major break in the case, detaining two subjects who police believe may have stolen the personal watercrafts.

Surveillance footage on Aug. 5 captured two subjects, wearing clothing that made them appear to be average personal water craft drivers, stealing the personal watercrafts.

Police said what was concerning was that the thefts were occurring in broad daylight.

“I came back on a Friday, and they were gone,” said victim John Dickinson.

Their casual appearance made it difficult for Marine Patrol to track them down, according to police.

The two suspects were taken into custody and transported to Miami Beach Headquarters for questioning, Wednesday afternoon. “These criminals aren’t necessarily the smartest of all folks,” said Miami Beach Police officer Ernesto Rodriguez. “If you add layers of defense in order to protect your property, they’re gonna go on and hit the next home.”

The Miami Beach Police Department released a statement Wednesday that read: “Two male subjects are in MBPD custody. So far, we have linked them to 10 personal watercraft thefts within Miami Beach. Our investigation and interviews continue.”

They have yet to be arrested as questioning continues.
