VIRGINIA KEY, Fla. (WSVN) — A manatee rescued in South Florida waters is now on the road to recovery.

He was brought to Miami Seaquarium with a scar across its back, over the weekend. A group of good Samaritans spotted the animal struggling to swim properly near a dock in Plantation Key and called Florida Fish and Wildlife, Saturday morning.

Officials said he couldn’t use his left fin. “He has broken ribs still,” said Seaquarium animal care supervisor Jessica Schiffhauer. “When he came in, he had the broken ribs, and he was actually floating at the surface sideways.”

The manatee is now eating well and appears to be getting better. There’s no word on when they expect him to be completely healed.
