MIAMI SHORES, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida man is sharing his side of the story, days after, he said, he was attacked by a woman he’d caught on camera stealing a package from a Miami Shores home.

Last Wednesday, Adolfo Martinez was remodeling a home in Miami Shores when, he said, he saw a woman stealing a gift-wrapped package that had been left outside the home. He then took out his cellphone and hit record.

Police said two women were involved in the incident. They were later identified as 27-year-old Marisol Sanchez and 26-year-old Lorely Lafont.

According to the arrest affidavit, Lafont was the woman who interacted with Martinez in the video. The footage captured her carrying the package over to the suspects’ black Chevrolet Impala.

“I say, ‘I call police; I record the video,'” he said. “I say, ‘I have the video.’ She say, ‘I don’t care.'”

“You’re stealing that thing there,” Martinez is heard telling Lafont in Spanish.

Moments later, the woman is seen dropping the package and covering up the vehicle’s license plate with her body. As Lafont picked up the package and tried to get into the car, Martinez quickly approached the car and captured the license plate.

The footage then shows Lafont going after him with a metal bar from his work truck. “She told me, ‘Oh, OK, I’m stealing your car, so she opened the door,” said Martinez as he reenacted her actions. “She don’t see nothing like money, nothing, she takes [the metal bar] and [throws it] to me.”

Martinez said he took off running, and then the woman threw the bar, but it missed him.

After the story aired last week, 7News tracked down Martinez. He said he was trying to protect his employer. “I said, ‘This is my boss’ house, so I’ll stay here, and I’ll record the video,'” he said.

The owners of the home were not there at the time of the incident. “He’s a nice guy, my boss,” said Martinez.

Police said the package the women took was a baby gift. Since they had the car’s license plate, they were able to take both of them into custody.

Detectives said there is even more to this story. Inside the suspects’ car were two small children. “When she opened the window, I see two babies inside,” said Martinez.

In the meantime, Martinez said, people who have seen the dramatic footage are calling him a hero. “Oh, ‘good guy,’ ‘good man,’ ‘you scared the woman,'” he said.
