MIAMI (WSVN) - Surveillance video at a Miami gas station captured a man stealing a purse from a woman while she sat in the back seat of a car.

“It was very fast,” said the victim, Luna Bertolotti.

Bertolotti was waiting in her friend’s Porsche open-top convertible when a man came up and snatched her purse right out of her hands. “Thing is, I thought it was my friend, I didn’t realize that someone was stealing my bag, so I thought my friend was joking with me,” she said.

The purse-snatching happened on the 5400 block of Biscayne Boulevard, just before midnight, Sunday. Cameras captured several angles of the purse snatching.

During the robbery, the thief punched Bertolotti several times in an attempt to loosen her grip. “The first reaction, of course, is to try to hold it, but then you realize that it’s much better not to.”

Police are now hoping that the surveillance video footage will lead to an arrest of the person responsible.

Bertolotti also said she will no longer come to the gas station where she was robbed or any other gas station, late at night. “It’s better to be safe and alive, ’cause most of the time it goes — it can be worse, ” she said.

Police said the suspect stands about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds. At the time, he was wearing a round neck sweater and a black hat with a white emblem.
