MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - A father was killed and his son was injured after, police said, they were shot in Miami Gardens, Monday night.

Miami Gardens Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene of the shooting in the area of Northwest 193rd Street and 39th Court, just after 9:30 p.m.

According to investigators, 35-year-old Spencer Robinson was shot and killed. The younger victim, 12-year-old Sylvester Robinson, was shot in the foot. Police said he was sitting inside on a couch when a gold Dodge Charger drove by and fired multiple rounds in his father’s direction.

Robinson’s sister, Helena Robinson, said she wouldn’t pretend her father did not have any problems but described him as a loving father and someone “who would give the shirt off his back.”

She said she has lived in this house for more than 40 years, and now she can’t even look at it. The sister was inside the house with her mother when the shooting happened.

“Just like a normal day, sitting on the porch,” said Helena Robinson. “Him and his son, and I was in the room because I wasn’t feeling well. My friend came over to give me some medicine. Then, shots started breaking out, so we got on the floor. I’m yelling, ‘My son! My son! My brother!’ All of a sudden my brother comes into the house bleeding, yelling, ‘Help me! Help me!'”

She called 911 but it was too late. Her brother had been fatally wounded, shot in the chest multiple times on the porch of the family home.

Another witness, Mike Kirkland, also described what he heard. “It sounded like Iraq. Just pop, pop, pop pop, you know?”

The boy was transported to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

An area resident said he was saddened by the shooting. “It’s just a shame that it has to happen in your neighborhood,” he said.

Eddie, a neighbor, said he doesn’t understand the shooting. “I just don’t understand it. I can’t see any logic in it,” said Eddie. “I can’t see any justification in it. What motivates people to kill each other? I don’t know.”

Kirkland said, “It’s like, when does it stop?”

His family said, they just want answers. “The senseless killing has got to stop,” said Robinson, “With four kids, now the kids got to go on without a father.”

Authorities said the deceased was the victim of another shooting at the same home in 2011, when he was affiliated with known gang members.
