SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A longtime Florida couple is keeping their 61-year-old bond consistent with a tasty tradition.

Ann and Ken Fredericks, who live in Satellite Beach, celebrate their wedding anniversary by nibbling on a piece of their original wedding cake. The couple got married on Aug. 19, 1955, and they’ve been eating the same cake for the last 61 years.

“I say, ‘You know something? The caterer gave my mother the top layer of our cake,'” said Ann, “and I said, ‘I’ve got that. Why don’t we eat a piece of that and celebrate?’ And that’s how the tradition started.”

“We still love each other,” said Ken.

“That’s right,” Ann chimed in.

“And we enjoy each other’s company,” her husband continued.

The tradition started on their first wedding anniversary. They keep the frozen remains of the cake in an old Maxwell House coffee tin.
