MIAMI (WSVN) - Crews responding to a fire at an abandoned duplex in Miami, Saturday afternoon, found a 3-week-old kitten while searching for victims.
Miami Fire Rescue responded to reports of heavy flames and smoke at the two-story structure at 1452 N.W. 44th St., just before 3:30 p.m.
Firefighters battled the flames and prevented them to spreading to neighboring homes.
Officials said crews found the feline barely alive. Paramedics treated and cleaned the animal at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
After a search for its mother came up empty, firefighters decided to take the black kitten back to Miami Fire Station No. 12, located at 1455 N.W. 46th St.
Officials said the cat, named Smokey, is in need of a good home. They encouraged anyone interested in adopting the small survivor to go to the fire station.
The duplex fire remains under investigation
