BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — The husband of a South Florida woman who was struck and killed by a train despite his rescue attempt has died one day after the accident.

Boca Raton police say 58-year-old William Landes appears to have died of natural causes but an investigation is being launched. The SunSentinel reports  that Landes’ body was discovered Thursday at his Boca Raton home by the couple’s teenage daughter.

A day earlier, 62-year-old Robin Landes was struck by a train in Delray Beach after apparently tripping on the tracks. Witnesses told police William Landes tried and failed to save her. The couple had just eaten dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Family members say the couple was married for 20 years.
