FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A home improvement store and charity teamed up, Friday, to make critical improvements to a Fort Lauderdale veteran’s home.

Home Depot and the Rebuilding Together Foundation fixed up 68-year-old Albert Burks’s home so that his wheelchair-bound wife can move back home. Burks said he felt a little like a celebrity for a day.

“I knew there was gonna be people here, but when I saw, it kind of hit me, you know, I sorta feel like a celebrity for a day,” Burks said.

His wife is currently at an assisted living facility.

The project was part of the Celebration of Service Campaign, an effort led by Home Depot’s volunteer force to give back to veterans.
