HIALEAH, FLA. (WSVN) - A Hialeah man was arrested after police said he stabbed the family dog and attempted to decapitate it.

According to an arrest report, 21-year-old Gabriel Jimenez stabbed the dog on Wednesday because it had bit him and had rabies. In fear and pain, the dog bit Jimenez’s finger, triggering him to continue to stab the dog in the back with a 7-inch kitchen knife.

Jimenez’s father told police that the attack was unprovoked, and the dog had never been aggressive to anyone before.

The man was charged with animal cruelty with intent to injure and kill. He appeared in bond court Thursday where he was ordered to stay away from all 4-legged animals and was granted a $10,000 bond.

The dog was transported to Knowles Animal Hospital in Miami but unfortunately did not survive.
